Hi girls or boys
and
welcome on... The post where we speak only in english.
I am found of English.
Unfortunately, I'm not totally bilingual.
That is why I am trying to communicate with others people in English.
So, I open this subject. I would like here we speak only in English.
Therefore, the forum rules will apply.
Good humor, advice to improve ourselves in the practice of this language are welcome here.
And of course, google translator is totally prohibited because it says just about anythings.
I'm sorry for the mistakes
I hope see you soon
Maclem

Yes but I won't be too critical. The good thing about English is , if you make a complete hash of the sentence and get all the words in the wrong sequence and it has loads of grammatical errors in it,an English person will still be able to understand what you are trying to say.

Omg, that's where I realise that I can easily understand frenchy speacking english but when someone native is speacking i'm lost.
It's the same problem when I'm looking movie! I can understand english one but not american, well it depends of the accent!
Isn't it "to watch" a movie instead of "to look" ?
I've always been pretty much ok with accents.
Apart from that time where I was quite drunk (let's be honnest and admit the horrible truth) in a bar late at night and this Irish guy came to talk to me. At first I didn't even realise he was speaking English ! Then I chose to be my French self and instead of trying to talk back to him in English I only said the following Ohh so beautifull words : "désolée monsieur mais je ne comprends pas votre langue!"
I thing i gave him another good reason to make fun about the French !
That's funny, the people I know find it easier to understand american accents than British English And I agree, even though half my family is English Maybe it's because so many movies and series are in American English.
It can also be a matter of people... My manager is English and unfortunately I have big troubles understanding him, he doesn't articulate properly... So I spend my time telling him "I'm sorry, the sound quality is very poor, can you repeat please ?"
That's the main problem I think, they are so used to being understood, speaking their language, that they can sometimes forget to make an effort to articulate a bit more and go more slowly
Hey guys!
I totaly UNDERSTAND english
I read almost all my books in english and also watch my TV shows in english. This allowed me to learn english - better than I did at school
But I have some isses SPEAKING it, so I'm joining you here to practise a little bit!
Have a good day
PS: I'm going to Berlin next year, to follow classes in english. So I better improve myself, especially since I don't speak a single word of german
France is very good thanks.
We enjoy every day at our own pace rather than one dictated to us when we worked for other people.
When we arrived 5 years ago I spoke "school boy French" ie. rubbish but I got friendly with a retired old man who helped me with my French. I'm not fluent but can hold my own in most situations.
Hi there
Same story for my parents! 16 years ago we all came to France and it's been hard for them to fully grasp the language. My parents learnt the most from us being at school. How have you found France so far? Not too much xenophobia? I don't know the Dordogne very well, but there are packs of brits where I am, yet the french are still having a real hard time getting over the "mass" immigration...

Du kannst nicht Deutsch sprechen ????
Don't worry, in Berlin, most people speak english, so you'll be fine. A good way it to organise a language exchange with other people. For example, you can trade your french skills with an english persons english skills (this works particularly well with students) in person or via Skype.
If there is no one geographically close, just find an english student forum or website, post an add and I'm sure you'll find someone!
You can also find facebook groups dedicated to language learning (all universities have at least one!!).
But actually, I feel like French have a problem with immigration from North Africa and Eastern Europe, not really with people from the UK, Spain, Germany...
But it is my french point a view! Am I wrong?
(PS: I don't have any problem with people from North Africa or Eastern Europe, I am generalizing!)
